Convert SCBA Bottle For Bail Out Rig?

At the plant dismantle I'm working on, I've acquired a few RACAL SCBA rescue rigs. Took one down to the local dive shop to see if it is possible to convert only the bottle to a bail out rig. Shop owner got the old valve off it and said he could put a new SCUBA valve on it and didn't see any issue with using it as a pony bottle. It's an aluminum cylinder with what I'm guessing is a carbon fiber wrap about the mid section of the bottle to allow for the 4500 psi load.

Anyone else attempted/used something like this, or will the carbon fiber wrap jack with the bouyancy?

They are very light, You might need a weight to make it neutral. I work for the fire dept and we have the same ones, aluminum with carbon fiber, with fiberglass on the outer layers. When it wears down the glass to the black carbon, its no good, acording to the maker. Sounds like job security. Should work if you can fit a valve.

That thing is going to be very positive, and you will need so much lead to make it neutral, it will be dangerous.

Pony bottles are relatively cheap.
