Re: Dengue fever

I don't know how you do it. Have lived in remote tent camps in arctic for summer months, a gazillion mosquitos but no disease, and on boats in Caribbean for years and mosquitos alway a problem. Alway under my mosquito net feasting on ears. Like you say only takes one. Even with early maleria pills had maleria in 60's and finally got over it pretty much in early 90's came back a couple of times a year utill then.

Re: Dengue fever

Hi all,
Ive been reading this forum for some time but I never posted before. I live in Venezuela an endemic area for both, Dengue fever and chicungunya. Both deceases are transmitted by the same mosquito, and As some of you said already, the best way to avoid them is not letting youself get bitten by it. Since some of the initial symptoms can be flu style I wanted to give a little piece of advice: if you are traveling in to an endemic area for this deceases and you are developing any flu like symptoms, do not take anything but acetaminophen until you have a proper diagnosis of your illness.
Aspirin or non steroid desinflamatories (ibuprofen, naproxen, etc.) are highly non indicated and can dangerously worsen the situation.
