Custom Roller Gun
Just finishing up two builds this week. This is the first - a 110cm single roller made from black locust with some thin red cedar strips for color. All of this wood came from a pile of old fence posts on my family's land. This is the first roller I've ever built and aside from a few small errors I think it turned out great. I had the chance to test it in the pool the other day and it's shooting 2-inch groups at 20ft and getting good penetration on a high density foam board. I think it'll make an excellent oil rig gun!
Specs are:
I'll post results from the other gun next week when the shaft comes in. It's a very different build - a mahogany 150cm tuna gun. Last edited by Hpwatson; 10-05-2018 at 10:00 AM. |

Re: Custom Roller Gun
Nice looking build and great with some history behind the wood.
Quick question, you measure distance to target from the tip of the spear? |

Re: Custom Roller Gun
Yes from tip of the spear. I don't think I'd shoot at a fish from that distance but it's fun to see it shoot a tight group at that range.

Re: Custom Roller Gun
Looking good! And if it shoots good, then you are golden.
I got a question. I don't see any kind protrusion in the muzzle area to avoid the tail being linched by the wishbone when the last bit of rubber goes arround the rollers.... Have you experienced any issues? |

Re: Custom Roller Gun
Yeah so I used plastic beaded wishbone inserts and when I first rigged the gun they made the ends of the band fat enough that it stopped itself from pulling all the way through. Once I shot a few times though they did start pulling through but from what I can tell it still isn't effecting the shaft. I may come in and put a bridge in there but so far it seems that even though the wishbone is pulling through the holes it still shoots accurately and has some good power.
