Shark Defense with Hagfish Slime?
Don't be surprised if this Hagfish slime makes an appearance as an underwater protective device.
https://www.iflscience.com/plants-an...terial-future/ Apparently rather small amounts of the substance secreted by the animal when in contact with seawater create a suffocating goo that is a thick yet oddly low density slime. Produced as a defensive measure by the revolting looking Hagfish that is the stuff of nightmares, scientists are beavering away how to use the slime and possibly replicate it. If they cannot do so and it looks like fortunes can be made then the unloved Hagfish will be in big trouble as underwater drones directing computerised haul nets banking and turning in the depths strive to bag them up by the tons. https://www.theatlantic.com/science/...-slime/581002/ |
