Exclamation "Closure of Snapper & Grouper from South Carolina to Cape Canaveral may be necessary"

The lastest SAFMC News Release headlines "Closure of large areas to all snapper grouper fishing may be necessary to end overfishing of red snapper" From the coast of South Carolina to Cape Canaveral. This is the big one, folks, potentially the end of spearfishing for many people as they know it.

So starting in October, there may be zero fishing for ALL snappers and ALL groupers from SC to Central Florida!

No. It would mean no bottom fishing at all from 98fsw to 300'. This has been an issue for the past 2 years & it is not a done deal yet! The closure for RS is just the tip of the iceberg. How about Individual Transferable Quotas & Limited Access Privileges? All of these things are in front of us now. The best thing you can do at this point is to join larger groups like the FRA & RFA. They have a wealth of information on both sites & stand for all fishermen. If we do not unite & stand now, we will lose all of our rights.
Thanks,
Gene

NMFS, FWC and NOAA have turned into out of control regulatory machines. NOAA and NMFS have always favored the commercial interest and have been in bed with their lobbyists for quite some time. I say we close them and leave Snapper and grouper fishing open...

Fisheries management enema. These people are just trying to perpetuate their jobs. They have become used to being fed by the government. They should be elected not appointed.

What I heard it wasn't just bottom fishing, it was any take of grouper/snapper species in 98-300 ft deep. This would be incredibly hard to enforce, especially off Georgia and North Florida. I realize it has been on the table for quite sometime, but it is so ridiculous I never thought they'd actually consider it seriously.
