Re: Because you cant drown a snapper....head

I insist on everyone who dives off my boat to have a Surface Marker Buoy. The one I insisted that SnapperHead buy about a week before when he dove on my boat might have saved his life. Food for thought.

I carry the safety sausage I got when I completed my advanced PADI course although I believe it is just a 4' one. From the story it sounds like this is marginal so I'll be looking at upgrading it as well as procuring a PLB.

Risk is mitigated by having an experienced cap't on board to follow bubbles when current is kicking. If anchored up, best make sure you can make it back to the anchor rope. Multiple divers not anchored requires coordination w/ fellow divers to not lose sight of one another so that cap't doesn't have to track multiple bubbles. Cap't should be experienced enough to recognize by his drift trail which direction current is flowing whilst calculating effects of wind on boat. These are absolute necessary skills to have as a cap't.

So my rig continues to evolve, but currently I have an 8 foot SMB and my ACR ResQlink+ PLB in a Custom Divers canister all stowed under my wing in a mesh pouch. It's basically out of the way completely, but there as my lost at sea kit.

I am pretty frustrated with the nautilus lifeline I bought. After only a few dives the one single o-ring failed and it filled with saltwater and was ruined. $200 down the drain. I need to look into the ACR you posted.

Keep an eye out for their rebate. Usually twice a year they offer one.

ACR is waterproof to 30 ft. Definitely get the PLUS version as it is buoyant. The regular version will sink to the abyss if you drop it.
