RI newbie looking for spearfishing buddy
I'm brand new to spearfishing and freediving but I've spent most of my life around water (fishing, surfing, sailing, etc). My friends don't seem very interested in trying it and it doesn't seem safe to go alone. I have a sailboat/kayak hybrid that can hold 2 or 3 people with gear. I'm thinking I'd like to hit Newport but I'm down for anything.
Edit: PS I freedive Joe |

Re: RI newbie looking for spearfishing buddy
Thanks! I've put a lot of work into it. I built the wooden benches and added "gear tracs" that can hold any kind of RAM mount. I use em for rod holders and gps/fish finder. Sailing around is easier than paddling and less maintenance/expense than buying a power boat. It's really perfect for what I want to do.
When I'm out in the ocean I do get the feeling "we're gonna need a bigger boat" hah... no sharks yet though |

thanks for the welcome! i've been waiting a long while to dive from it So I was sailing around third beach at Newport and I noticed a rock cluster way offshore to the south. Looks like it's just under a mile according to google maps. Has anyone been out there spearing? Think there would be fish? I want to check it out! Last edited by DaytonaJoe; 07-24-2012 at 09:03 PM. Re: RI newbie looking for spearfishing buddy
I've been wanting an AI for about 2 years now. That is a nice rig. I'm jelly. The planks look better than what the tramps would do. I wish you lived closer to mid CT, I'd go out with you, but I don't have any spero stuff yet.
If your just doing fishing from a yak, there is a striper shootout in Salem, MA. around August 17-19. http://www.newenglandkayakfishing.com/ I'll be there with a few of the locals that's on my fishing team. Drinks, BBQ, camping, and fishing for a few days on end. |
