Starfish: Let's all act like we know things.
It's Friday, so it's a great time to speculate wildly about something that no one really knows about, form strong opinions, then call anyone who disagrees an idiot. It's the internet way.
Starfish. There was a huge state-wide die off a few years ago, now in the spots I dive (south of LA county) I see absolutely zero starfish. Are they just gone now? What effects will this have? I guess they eat mussels and maybe urchins, so those guys will probably do a lot better for now. Then sheephead populations will boom because of so much food for them, then one giant sheephead will proclaim himself king of the sea, and will organize a pseudo sheephead government which will in turn commit atrocities against calico bass, driving them from local waters. So get ready to never see calicos again. Thanks a lot, science. |

Maybe we should re-think legalizing canabis

There's definitely no shortage of chocolate starfish down here.

I hear they're real good with hot dog flavored water. Recipes are available online.

purpuratus have taken over because of the lack of starfish, sheepshead litter all over the islands and the purps get to the food faster than the red urchins, kill the purps or bring back the starfish

Go to California Divers News website are there’s a great article about the chain of events that has occurred impacting our dive sites. It’s a very interesting article that explains the starfish die off (virus) and how it created the urchin problem up north, thus destroying our abalone season.
