Re: Malibu Conditions Permathread

Got in the water yesterday at 5pm. Viz at the outer kelp was huntable to 12ft. Lots of particulate but seemed to be improving as the tide came in.A bit windy but tons of fun in north Malibu. I was looking for goats and spotted one. He was right on the reef so the flopper didn't penetrate. He bolted to a hole. When I peeked in no goat but a quarter inch over legal bug!
Not bad for a quick trick or treat dive.

Went out yesterday from sunrise until 11:00. The fewest fish I have seen in quite some time. Heavy particulate. High tide unfortunately didn't clear it up. Took 8 lobsters between my buddy and I. A fun day in the water at the very least

Re: Malibu Conditions Permathread

Vis is showing some improvement. Next few days may be really nice. It looked clear from the cliff when I got in East of Dume around noon-3:30 but vis on the inside was 5-10' but more like 5'. No flatties seen. Found patchy 20' vis in outer kelp but mostly 10-15'. Lots of bait today. Still managed to take two calicos and a chunky goat for a fish fry. Saw no lobster. Didn't do much looking for em tough. Overall, thought the conditions were pretty good considering the negative low tide that coincided with my dive.

Re: Malibu Conditions Permathread

east of dume had great vis on friday when i dove. Got in around 11ish and stayed until 2:45ish. fairly clear in the shallows, minus the sand clouds from the surge...it worsened as it neared low tide BUT the outer reef had top to bottom vis and it was about 30 ft of water. I could see the big fish as i was breathing up on the surface. the outgoing tide brought a layer of murk on the surface but once you got under that foot of murk it was as clear as before.

Re: Malibu Conditions Permathread

Got in for a quick high tide dive today. Vis was really good even in the low morning light filtering through the marine layer. Little windswell out there making the shallows hazy but still found 10-15' vis inside. Outer kelp was top to bottom, maybe 30'+. Lots of bait and reef fish seen. Stoned a solid goat. Maybe 12lb??? What do you think from the picture?

friday 11.1.13
solo dive east of dume on the outgoing tide (couldn't wake up early enough for high tide). great vis. top to bottom in outer reef in about 30 ft. Sheephead went about 7-8 lbs...not sure how accurate our digital scale is though. Enjoyed some fresh fish tacos!

Sunday 11.3.13
boat dive with my dad and his friend. couple spots also east of dume. beautiful visibility. i got a limit of bass, the big sheep (a bit bigger than the one i got on friday, probably closer to 9-10 lbs), and an octopus.

Re: Malibu Conditions Permathread

Very solid conditions again today. 30'+ vis. Limited on calicos and took two goats too.

Go dive if you can.
