Help Wanted: Looking for place to pull inboard motor
Posting to see if anyone in our community has the tools/resource to help us out of this jam. starter bolt decided to fail and shear off leaving the threads in the motor block. Due to the location, and no access to tap it in the boat, it looks like I will have to remove my boats motor. Of course, the drive has to be backed out as well to pull a motor.
This could quickly become a very expensive bolt . Looking for an inexpensive shop (have calls into DP shipyard and Harrys Marine), or even better, a person who already has the equipment to pull an inboard motor (merc 454). Since the motor will have to clear 5.6-6' to get over the transom, this isn't a plain old cherry picker. So that is where I am jammed, and searching for a proper option. Normally overhead shop hoists and forklifts are used. SO if you or anyone you know has access to a forklift where I can bring a boat for an hour or two to pull and set on a crate stand, it would be a huge help. Thanks for checking out this call for help guys. Located in Dana Point, and trailer able. Any input is welcome. Rewarding the best help offered with lots of boat ride invites |

put the cherry picker in the bed of a truck then roll it towards the cab and drop the motor on the tailgate. OSHA approved.

Is there room to use a magnetic base drill motor and extension drill..might be worth talking with some machine shops, auto repair specialty shops, well tooled marine mechanics first..some old timers have made up special tools just for such occasions...

You have any big trees by your house?
Maybe get a chain hoist and use a big branch overhead to lock it to. |
