Re: Sebastian Vis/Temp?
I was diving 45' last Saturday off Vero Beach pier. Vis was about 20ft. bottom temp was chilly, probably low-mid 70s. Pretty strong current on top from south.
Shot some nice size mangos, keeper trigs and one giant 10lb sheepie. I wish I could share the pic. |

45 fsw 16 miles south of sebastian. Vis 15 to 20 ft. Low 70s on bottom. Strong current from south. Barely able to swim against it on the top. Be careful

Re: Sebastian Vis/Temp?
We went out yesterday East to the 85 foot ledge. Very strong current on the top and middle hard to follow The line down. Top 15 feet clear, from 15 to about 65 feet murky dark. The bottom 15 or 20 feet pretty decent. I'd say we had about 15 for the visibility temp was 68 ont the bottom. We got a few fish overall it was good diving. The final dive we moved in a mile and a half west towards the inlet, temperatures were about the same but visibility dropped to maybe 10 feet and The water had this green tint to it. Seas were calm.
A friend of mine took a group of new divers out also yesterday, they went north to 60 feet in front of Melbourne Beach. They said the visibility was terrible. They spent the day working their way back south towards the inlet stopping at all the 60 numbers they had. Said visibility was just poor the whole day. Overall I would say if you have the opportunity to go out take it. But my suggestion is go deeper than 80 feet or possibly head south. Just make sure before your divers jump off the boat they know what direction to swim if they cannot follow down the line. The current was so strong we could not keep with the line so we had to use the compass and the depth when we got to the bottom to find the ledge. But once you were on the bottom there was very little current. Happy hunting. |

Re: Sebastian Vis/Temp?
the flip is coming my friends. Just in time for mini season. The strong south currents are a sure sign of cold water and whale snot on the bottom in a few weeks.
The vis has been better to the south but the cold water is moving in there too. |

Re: Sebastian Vis/Temp?
The conditions are still holding out of Sebastian. We had top to bottom viz in 45' Sunday July 9. Drop site 14 miles south of inlet. Low 70's on the bottom with a stiff current from the south. Praying the conditions hold for another 3 weeks!!!

Down near Bethel in 80' it was 80 on the surface and clear, a snotty layer @ 35', then cold past the thermocline (65) with 25' viz.
