Unhappy Deadly Diver Disaster On Haulover Beach - Spearfishing Diver Rest in Peace 6-8-14

May our fellow Spearfisher rest in eternal peace.

Deadly Diver Disaster On Haulover Beach

CBS Miami June 8, 2014 7:02 PM

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – A diver lost his life Sunday after he went missing on what was supposed to be a fun fishing trip at Haulover Beach.

The diver was out spear fishing with his friend near 10350 Collins Ave on Sunday afternoon. Both divers were said to have gone underneath the water, but when the other diver came up he noticed his friend was missing, according to Miami Dade police.

The friend called search units for help and after an intense search, the Marine Patrol found the missing man.

The diver was taken to Haulover Park Marina and then transported to Aventura hospital where he was placed in critical condition.

Doctors fought to keep him alive but he was pronounced dead.

I will not give this brothers name, as this has just happened and his family needs to be considered. Yes, I have known this great guy for years. There are others here that have spent more time with him than I. Another spearo from SB was there when our friend died, perhaps later he may be able to give his account
Our passed brother was one of THE nicest, soft spoken, considerate, sportsman I ever met. He loved to hunt. He loved the sea and spearfishing. He was a very accomplished spearo and a conservationist. He was a young spearo who started out beach diving, then years spearing off his yak and later off a boat around Miami/Ft. Lauderdale. He had a noticeable confident calming effect with his 6ft+ presence. He was only 24. One of THE nicest guys ever.
My condolences to his family and friends
I will remember him forever

Yes. He was a very good young man whom I had spoken with by phone in the past and was a frequent poster here on Spearboard. He will be missed.

I am not fully ready to share the whole story on here yet. I ask for no speculation or guessing or blame. When I am ready I will share what needs to be said. Sunday I lost my brother, my roommate of 2 years, my dive buddy and my best friend.

You are under no obligation. Please take your time and grieve appropriately. We all deal with it differently, but I would advise you to not grieve alone. If and when you are ready to share, I'm sure spearboard will be here.
