Pucker Up, Bitchez!

I'm thinking after the first bite would be the time to bury a shaft in its gills.

Dude is lucky. Looks like on the second strike it took his fin.

Re: Pucker Up, Bitchez!

He did everything right.
Didn't give up His fish,
Didn't panic or try to run.
Worked his way back to the boat.
Poked him when he got too close.

Shoot him? He has but ONE shot to take, and odds are not in his favor. Had he had a power head it would have been an ENTIRELY different story.

All's well that Ends well..and this encounter ended well.

Cudos to the diver!

... and very importantly he never lost eye contact with the shark.

Okay. Could have easily went the other way... something like this, "Breaking News: Search for Missing Diver Off The Coast of Australia."

THAT, was pretty intense. Personally, I think I'd cut my tether off near the spear and sail one thru his gills. It seemed way too curious...although, pokes directly to the snout would've seemingly been more effective as a first step.

No thank you! Ive never given up a fish to a shark before but if I were in that situation with that shark then hed be getting a free fish dinner on me and Id get the hell out of the water. That shark could end your life in a heartbeat if it wanted to. No fish is worth it!

So...you think starting a feeding frenzy with those few fish wouldn't lead to a Fricken Disaster!?

Re: Pucker Up, Bitchez!

Tough call. A white that big probably was more interested in him than the fish.

One observation I made was he was really far from the boat and had no buddy. It didn't look terribly deep, but breath holding without a buddy is just bad practice. Setting the shark aside, one mistake and he spends a few seconds too long at depth and he's SOL.

He did a good job. Don't see how he could have done any better considering the situation. That's the kind of guy you want on your boat.

You need to realize the wide angle lens on his Go Pro makes the boat look MUCH further away that it actually is.
And when he reached the boat there was another diver in the water with him, they may have been back to back all along ( "watching each others back" ).

It appeared to me that the shark came in on the second strike and bit or knocked his left fin off. You can see it sinking to the bottom after the strike.

Re: Pucker Up, Bitchez!

I am not familiar with sharks at all but for what from what I have read here in SB seems like he made a few mistakes: diving without a buddy at arms reach, not letting the fish go and not carrying one (or a couple) powerheads.

Regarding the last statement, maybe it was not allowed in his area (I know for a fact that they are not allowed in Spain... although we don't need them, as we don't have sharks arround).
