Greetings! I'm new to the Sarasota area
Hello everyone! Ive been a member for quite some time now but I have been having to do too many adult things and the areas my wife and I had been moving too did not provide very good diving unless you had a boat (NC, Jacksonville Fl, and Texas) We are now finally somewhere we actually chose to move too and we are both beach/water people. I was a surface supplied commercial mixed gas diver but no oil drilling so no job for me... I like to free dive and we are both open water certified and I am new to the spear fishing game. I've been on one spearing charter a year ago in near Pensacola and no one shot any thing... haha was still a fun dive. Now that I am in the Sarasota area I have found there are a few spots to spear from shore, so we dusted off all our equipment and ready to get back at it! Just wish I would have brought my scuba tanks from Texas too... haha live and learn.. Ill rent those for now... I have a pole spear and Rob Allen tuna 1100, excessive for shore I am sure but I bought that one because previously my only option was to go on charters and this was what they recommended for the size fish they encounter. I look forward to any future encounters!

There is a good spearfishing club in Sarasota. It is called Sarasota Underwater Club. They meet the 1st Wednesday of every month. Go in Scuba Quest at 41 and Bahia Vista. Lots of spearos hanging around there. They can also give you more info on the Club.

Welcome! Yes I would have said the same as above. And a 110 size gun is fine. Many of use a larger gun for diving deeper than shore diving though. But it will work. Do go to the Scuba Quest in Sarasota and find out about the club. You will meet many who go out and spearfish regularly.
