heading over to Catalina over memorial day, staying in Whites Landing. If anyone has been in Catalina lately any information is helpful.

Re: Catalina Memorial day Weekend
...A most dangerous time to go with boat traffic running everywhere...that said, Whites is a good spot to dive for halibut among the moorings...our largest was 31 lbs....the action is best on the back side at the east end, on up to China Point for yellowtail and sea bass...the yellowtail are running 20 lbs. and up....
...On the west end, fish are showing in West Cove on down to Cat Harbor...backside water temp is 60 degrees....suggest diving early, as the wind is coming up every day by noon, making for miserable conditions in the channel and along the kelp beds..currently, vis is 30 to 40' most places...I would rent a mooring if staying overnite...that ensures a good nite's rest vs. getting up all nite to check the anchor in windy conditions....Today (Sat), the wind is creating some peasoup conditions on the backside at West Cove....hopefully it will decrease by Memorial Day....good hunting Yellowfin are nearing the U.S. border..yay!
