Raffle Gun - Any preferences?

I'm going to make a gun for the raffle ...was wondering if there were any preferences on length, # bands, track type, types of wood, scuba (sinker) or freediving?

Have teak, padauk, tigerwood, genuine mahogany, leopardwood, purpleheart, canary wood, wenge (dark brown) & monterillo (type of rosewood) on hand.

The gun will be all wood...either mid, rear, or rear handle plus.

Re: Raffle Gun - Any preferences?

i have found that the best thing to do is give a credit amount , and then do a custom gun for the winner .that way it is always the right gun , and the winner can always pay to upgrade if they want something way more than you had planed

Thanks Phil,
That does sound like the best way!
However, I don't have skills like you...it takes me a long time to build a gun. I'd rather have 4 months to slowly work on the gun, than feeling I need to quickly get a gun done for someone.

I like the idea of the gun being there & ready to use...otherwise it's like getting a toy at Xmas, but having no batteries.

when people call me i tell them it will be 4-8 months or when im happy with it going out ,and i tell them if it gets a scratch when im boxing it up to ship out it will get torn down and refinished , i always hear i cant wait to get the gun ,but take your time. people will wait for quality and know it will take time .

Re: Raffle Gun - Any preferences?

I wanted the gun from last year but make it more euro style.

I also like the look of alternating lams of different properties. Light dark, tight grain wide grain, etc

Enclosed track with front open or deep open.

Lot of love on it

I'll be stuffing lotsa tickets into your jar (again) this year, regardless of what type of gun you make.

OK, OK I guess that will be good enough.

I don't remember the specifics of last year's gun, but I do remember how striking the dark stained (and oiled?) wood was. It didn't seem that different than other guns I've seen, but somehow it just was way more pleasing to look at.

Maybe it was the finish or the grain (or something), I couldn't exactly define what exactly made the gun so appealing to me. I remember picking it up and showing it to Sheri and asked what manufacturer made this gun... and I could tell she was REALLY impressed as well.

The piece of padauk was a dark red brown...most likely the reason.

Good luck.
Try bending the tickets...I remember one year that particular trick picked up a lot of prizes!

Re: Raffle Gun - Any preferences?

Maybe put " 2013 Blue Wild Winner " somewhere on the gun also.

If that gun is ever lost, won't be hard to find the owner since they will have the biggest grin on all the pictures taken with it.

And it's pretty cool to show your buddies the winner emblem on the boats!

I agree. That is a cool addition. Even just "blue wild 2013"
