Out of JP 4/3/18

Went out to 60' a little north of the shipping channel. 2 dives were done close by each other. Vert. vis. was top to bottom. Could see the reef bottom looking over the side. Horz. vis. was a good 35'-40'. Bottom temp. was 65F. for both dives. Gags were seen teasing by hanging around and doing swim by's. Red grouper too small, a few decent goes and hogfish. That's it.

Nice report. Hoping to get out this weekend for the first time this year. That chill is still hanging on, eh? Sounds like a full 3 mil will suffice.

Hopefully with the Gulf getting so cold this winter the plankton blooms will be less than average and we'll have a good year for viz. Last year seemed pretty bad.

Hoping this Sunday will be a little warmer and we won't get rained out - damn fronts are killing me this year.

Re: Out of JP 4/3/18

Got lucky with the wind on Tuesday. Seas were almost flat in the am. and then about a 1' chop in the afternoon. This Sunday, so far looks like about 3' seas. Seas for our area average about 2'-4' on any given day. Also, just a slight colder thermal in the water column near the bottom yesterday. Bring a hooded vest or core warmer just in case depending on how many long dives you do as your core temp. drops. Guys, good hunting this sunday.

Thanks for the report. That's what we saw a few weeks ago. Great viz at that depth and beyond. Hogs shallower, though. Weekend weather looks do-able but not great. I usually try to wait for good and not just do-able. South winds over the weekend usually a bad sign.

Yeah, south, southwest, and west wind on the west coast of Fla. usually produces a choppy confused sea which makes for a rough ride. Plus, it usually gets rougher as the sun travels west during the day. I usually stay home when winds are that direction.
