Handheld GPS Advise

Hey guys,

I'd like to hear everyone's opinions on handheld GPS devices. I'm looking for something to mark spots on while in the kayak, boating, etc. I was thinking in the $150-$300 dollar range. It has to be portable.

- Garmin vs Lowrance vs iPhone with Navionics apps
- Gray scale vs Color
- Chart vs no chart
- New vs Used

It would be really helpful if you could just post which handheld GPS you are using and the pros and cons with it.

I need to start building my database : )

Appreciate any advise

Yeah, i'm looking at the Garmin GPSMAP 78sc with built-in BlueChart g2 coastal charts. I'm thinking that's a winner but idk... its $350 on their website (which means i could probably find it for $280-$300).

I could just buy a used Garmin GPSMAP 78 on eBay for like $100-$160.

I use the Garmon 78sc to find numbers on my SUP. Works great. I keep in in a dry pack with a clear window so you can still see and use all the buttons.
