You were one of the ones spearing cudas on the Vandenberg that started all this s__t about cudas. You are the one to blame not anyone else. Yet you insist on blaming everyone else but yourself. If you and a handful of others would have just stayed away from the popular dive sites and speared on remote and more productive areas like most commercial spearfishermen have done there would not have been a problem.
The flats guides got upset seeing so many barracuda taken. It is a fish they can catch for their customers on a slow day and it is the same ones on the flats as on the wrecks. They move around like all fish.
Maybe, you should just stick with making spearguns where you can't cause any trouble and stay off the water where you seem to always cause or get into trouble.
This statement confirms the taking up of the subject was based on the political and personal animosity motivations of particular user groups or individuals and not an iota of science-based fishery management. Not a good way to manage any fishery in my book.

Tony:
I agree with your statement above but that is how it works. As others have pointed out on this forum many of the decisions are political and not biological. The classic example is the ban on spearfishing in the upper Keys within a mile of US 1. This was all because a few spearfishermen pissed off the wrong people.

All true.....

Live rock harvest is another example. Collectors insisted on going to the rubble piles right at the mooring sites at Sombrero Key even though we warned them that they should go to any of the numerous remote sites. The result? Dive operators started raising hell and bit by bit wild live rock harvest was eliminated by order of the governor through the then MFC.

In both cases "You can't fix stupid".

Wink Re: FWC considering Banning Spearfishing in State and Federal

Yup ..... the system has its corrupt aspects. That's why we must continue the battle to retain spearfishing rights and not let the corruption prevail. All we can do is try our best. Thanks for these confirmation posts of what many of us suspected.

The mainstream media loves a good regulatory corruption story, so let's hope the probes begin in earnest and in time. Seeking all the emails and other correspondence subject to sunshine state disclosure laws should be their first step.
