GTMO spearos
Any free dive spearos living in GTMO on here? I want to expand my dive buddy list a bit. A lot of free time on my hands but not a lot of non-scuba spearos to go with.

Are you a freediver? What is your comfortable hunting depth?

Re: GTMO spearos
Yes I freedive. I have hunted to 50 ft regularly but honestly I haven't really tried to go deeper. I usually go out from glass so depth isn't really an issue there. Got sick of renting boats so I've been shore diving more often.

Go up in the bay where the water is dirtier. There are some monster lobsters there. Look around with a fathometer if there rentals have one. there are some ledges that hold the bugs.

I see snook everywhere. They are out of season right now and always super dumb fish to shoot. The cubera are my favorite fish to hunt here.

Re: GTMO spearos
Snapper1 is right, snook are everywhere down here. Cubera is what we usually target, they are somewhat difficult to find and fun to hunt. There's a couple 50+lb'ers swimming around down here. Definitely want to get one of those before I leave

Re: GTMO spearos
When does Snook open back up? Are there any other fish that are out of season this month? Fishing regs are tough to find down there.

Re: GTMO spearos
Ditto on the Snook, are there any regs on size limit, and number per day?

Re: GTMO spearos
Yes there are, but i am at the GTMO naval base. So unless you are military stationed here or a civilian contractor working on base, you cannot access the bay. I don't know about Cuban fishing regs outside our area
