Post deployment socal trip
So I'm currently in afghanistan and looking forward to some well deserved leave at the end of june/ early July. I'm trying to plan a trip with my buddy to head down to socal and do some spearfishing. My buddy and I are norcal guys and we have never done any diving in socal.
Don't know the seasons for White bass or yellowtail but hopefully it's around the time we will be down there. Can anyone help point us in the right Direction? Not asking for anyones secret spot or anything. Just some good spots to dive with decent access to the water with kayaks. And trust me, you won't have to worry about us giving away your spot or seeing us there often. I'm usually out of country and my buddy is always working. When he does get out its on the north coast. Any help would be greatly appreciated. And we would return the favor for any socal guys interested in heading north for some abs.

Re: Post deployment socal trip
First of all, thank you for your service!
I would suggest you reach out to the SoCal spearo community when the trip gets closer and you know where you will be staying. If you are in the LA area and you know the date, stop by the LA Fathomiers meeting and you'll meet a great bunch of guys that can surely help you out. Fishing should be fun that time of the year, no worries.

Re: Post deployment socal trip
June/July will be all good for gamefish...perhaps, even some tuna still around...pm me a few weeks before coming down and I will suggest some spots for coastal diving and may be able to run you fellows out to the islands if my boat hasn't sunk by then and I haven't drowned ...what area will you be staying in?

Thank you for your service. How far south are you going? LA/Orange County area or San Diego? If LA/Orange County hit me up when you have plans set. |

Re: Post deployment socal trip
Haven't decided where to stay yet. Honestly, where ever is close to where we will be diving. I'm up for any place that has fish. Lol
Thanks for all the help guys. I really do appreciate it. I'll definitely be letting you guys know when the time gets closer and I have exact dates when we will be heading out there. I don't even have an exact date yet when I'll be leaving AFG. Hopefully I don't get extended out here.

Re: Post deployment socal trip
So I just recently found out that im actually getting R&R on this deployment!!! YAH BUDDY!!! I guess they figure since ive been in this shit hole(AFG) for so damn long they would give me a break. lol
I don't know what fish are around in march. I know lobster is in season still in march but as for fish, I don't know. hoping for some wsb, yt, halibut, anything really. im heading down with my buddy from sacramento and we are hoping to find a charter that put us on some fish and lobster same day. anyone got any intel on this? hoping to hit catalina or other islands. wherever is good. I've always wanted to dive the islands, just never had the time. we are planning to head down march 9 and hopefully get on the water the 10th. Im supposed to get to sac on the 8th but im still waiting for my request to get approved and for the itinerary so I know the exact dates. I'm still getting my normal leave in June/July some time too so I still plan on heading down there at that time if the march deal doesn't work out.

Re: Post deployment socal trip
Rhyne, would you be free on March 10 for a catalina or other island trip for spearing/ lobster? Is it doable for both in one day? It would be my buddy and I so we would just have to find 2 other guys to fill the boat. Thanks.
