All About Pole Spears & Slings What is it about that traditional method of the early hunter/gatherers under the water? These devices are indeed interesting and effective.

Question Need help finding tips for my spear!

Hey guys I recently just got a break down travel pole spear from a my local dive shop and I'm having trouble finding new tips that fit my spear. The threads are a little thicker than others. Here are some pictures. Does anyone know if there is a website that supply tips for my spear?

Re: Need help finding tips for my spear!

You need to measure the outside of the threads with calipers or at least know if it is 3/8" or 1/2" thread. Unless your hand is extremely petite, the thread looks bigger than a 3/8". The threads look like they could be a 1/2"-20. I think the aluminum might be 5/8" diameter. Then again, there's a possibility that it is a metric thread. The easiest thing you could do is go to your hardware store and see what nut or bolt matches up so you know what it is.
I will say that most polespears deal with the standard 6mm, 7mm, 5/16", and then there are a few that use 3/8"-24 threads like the GAT-KU and Lance Ohara. I believe your thread size is bigger than all listed. . .

Pictured below is 3/8-24 thread on the GAT-KU. For reference, The round stock here is 1/2" aluminum.

No i have a big hand. They just kind of looked small because of the angles. But the Gat-Ku looks really close to mine. Ill probly bring it down to a hardware store. Thanks for the advice.

Re: Need help finding tips for my spear!

Some spearo shops may have adapters to bring that back to a 6mm thread.

When I used to stock Gatku I had a small bunch of adapters fabricared.
I would hope/assume that some of the Ca shops did the same thing

Mike.
