Cape San Blas/Port St Joe

Headed to the cape to scallop next week. Any reports? I see lots of public numbers offshore in 100' or so....are they worth going offshore to check out? Will be bringing my 23' Contender "lined out" so say hello if your out there. 13th-20th

Mike

It's been pretty good shooting this year. Heavy pressure on the public stuff and LOTS of sharks but we've still been getting good fish. I recommend the Shady Lady, Air Force Tower, LST, and the barges put out by the MBARA. Most of them hold good fish all the time.

I would stay away from the Oar barge. I was there last week and there were some MASSIVE and extremely aggressive bulls.

Wouldn't jump in there for any amount of money.

Never been to the area and hope I can put the kids on some scallops. Thanks for the pointers offshore. That's the secondary mission weather permitting and scallops having been slayed lol.

Any best bets on where to look s for scallops? Everyone so far says Blacks Island. Guess protocol is to look for the flotilla lol.

Re: Cape San Blas/Port St Joe

In the shallows in the east end of St Joe bay. Bring snorkel gear and a float, the boat may pull too much water and not be able get into the shallow grass beds. Look for the blue mantle eyes between the grass blades. Find a healthy grass bed and you'll likely find scallops.

The Empire Micah has always been a good dive, if a bit deep.
