Re: Action in Costa Rica.

Have been staying again there for organizing the things about the Open 2009.
We got a lot of rain and stormy weather during 5 days (end of the rainy season) and had every day to go back with the boat, after 2h trip because of rough sea.
To day the sea is becalmed and we were looking for good action at about 35miles off the coast:
Met by chance on the morning a magnifiscent 250lb blue marlin wich was visiting my flasher, it took off as usually very slow while dealing with me a safe distance.
Spotted a dolphin action+ birds... in our secret area.
Jumped from the boat and fell in the middle of an about 100 restless yellofin tuna (150 to 200 lbs) wich were swimming fast close to the surface... the school seemed like a rockets finale!
Unfortunaly we did'nt have any chum.
Did about 50 dives in the dolphin school but the tuna persisted in swimming fast beyond 100/ 120 feet depth.
Be back there tomorrow...
1st CR BWHO 09 competitors will gonna get a blast!
Pura Vida!

Re: Action in Costa Rica.

I did a short stay just there just after the Blue Wild.
Met by chance at about 30 miles off the coast this fish which was swimming under my fins at about 15 feet depht, at the time I was holding a flasher. Believed it was a black marlin because of the size and a short bill (female sfish have a short/ thinner bill). I shot instinctively and hit the fish under the caudal fin. Fight lasted about half an hour, until the fish could not tow me more, and sank. It towed me probably a couple of miles. Did not need a second shot, I grabbed the exhausted fish to the boat.
123,5 lbs/ 55,8 kg 10 feet/ 307cm long!
Back to the boat we have to rescue a broken down boat and tow the people save to the coast...
