Military discounts at Lowes and Home Depot
I just got this info in a email newsletter from the Military Officers Association. I wish I had known this years ago, because it would have saved me a lot of money. Better late than never though, and I'm passing it along in case it applies to you.
************************************** The Home Depot offers a year-round, 10 percent discount, up to a $500 maximum, to all active duty military personnel, reservists, retired or disabled veterans and their immediate families. We offer this discount to thank them for their outstanding service to this nation and to help make their homes more comfortable and safe. Customers requesting the discount should present a valid military ID. This discount is not available for our online shoppers or in addition to existing discounts or promotions. Lowe’s Companies, Inc. announced today it will expand its support of the military by offering an all day, every day 10 percent discount to all military personnel who are active, reserve, retired or disabled veterans and their family members, with a valid, government-issued military ID card. All other military veterans will receive the discount on the Memorial Day, Fourth of July and Veterans Day weekends. The discount is available on in-stock and Special Order purchases up to $5,000. Excluded from the discount are sales via Lowes.com, previous sales, and purchases of services or gift cards. |

The discount has been in effect for some years now. Lowes started offering it only on special days and then it became any time. They don't advertise it, you have to ask for it and show your ID(active or retired). I'm not sure how of how you'd prove you're a disabled vet, unless you carried your disability letter from the VA.

As a disabled vet, I can tell you, you get a VA id card with your picture on it. Thanks for the heads up Bill!! Just in time, as I'm buying a new house!

Re: Military discounts at Lowes and Home Depot
I was in Lowes a while back and the cashier saw one of my dog tags hanging out of my shirt. She asked if I was in the military and I told her that I was a Looong time ago. I didn't think anything about it until she gave me my receipt & said she gave me a 10% discount.
So, at least with that cashier, it looks like dog tags may be acceptable ID.

I believe that's only when you're at a 100% rating or medically retired. I'm only 10% service-connected. My buddy is 100% service-connected and he has both.

Re: Military discounts at Lowes and Home Depot
My mistake. Back in the dinosaur era when I was rated 50% SC, we didn't receive ID cards.

Re: Military discounts at Lowes and Home Depot
You can also get a disabled card from the VA if you are over 60% rated. 60% or higher you get into CA state parks and launch ramps for free. The card reads that.

Re: Military discounts at Lowes and Home Depot
Are they pretty thorough on checking military id's? The reason i ask is some places accept my DEP card and some don't, think they would?
