Need advice on fins
Hi all,
I’ve been using cressi gara 2000 for the past 5 years and i think its time to upgrade. I do mostly shore dives and cover alot of ground and my fins are pretty stiff. I’ve been thinking about upgrading to either fiberglass or carbon fins, but I’m not sure which is right for me. I dive mostly in shallower water (20-50ft) around florida and bahamas and i do scuff up my fins on the reef sometimes. Which fins would best suit my spearing needs? I would like to keep it under $400 Any input would be awesome, thanks Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |

Re: Need advice on fins
When shore diving I prefer rubber or thermoplastic fins as they don't come to grief on the rocks. Long blade resin fins either carbon or fiberglass reinforced are really for boat diving where you don't often strike the bottom and certainly not with your full weight on the fins. Thus deep water fins have an easier life except when getting back in the boat. Resin can chip and crack whereas rubber and thermoplastic blades just scuff and scratch.

Re: Need advice on fins
Take a look at our Carbon Elite Fins. Sounds like you will be looking for the soft blades.
With the reinforced sole, these blades are very tough and might be exactly what you are looking for - although the price is well below your budget - Free shipping and under $240. https://www.makospearguns.com/Carbon...ns-p/mceff.htm

Re: Need advice on fins
I was in the same boat a few years ago. Long time Cressi Gara 2000 HF user I switched to carbon fiber (from Carbontec, LCS model, budget fins with Mares footpockets). At first I had to adapt to it. Used to uber rigid fins, I found them too soft (I went with the manufacturers recommended hardness for my size/weight). But soon after that I started ejoying them.
All I do is shore diving (with the ocassional boat outing). I protected the exposed edge with two strips of black duct tape (I saw a few other spearos doing it) and so far, 5 years or so after buying them, they are still in one piece. I hit rocks, put them on at the beach (standing up), drag them on the sand, push with them to take off from the bottom, etc. They are not THAT dellicate. So no worries there. Any carbon fiber fin is going to be an upgrade. Just need to find one that fits your budget and has a good customer service behind it. Mikel |

Thanks Everyone ,
I’ve decided I’m going the carbon fiber route. I’ve decided on the Mako carbon fibers, they fit the budget great and I’ve experienced their great customer service first hand Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |

https://freediving.cetmacomposites.i...li-in-carbonio As for the fins I suggest that you take a photo of the blades before you ever use them so you have a reference to look at after they have accumulated some shore diving hours and can assess how they are going over time. |
