Re: Cool Filter System for GoPro Cameras

That is definitely very cool but they were using some serious light too which makes a huge difference. Even when the caption didn't mention lights you could still see shadows from the strobes

Still a very neat product. How much does it run?

Are you sure J? I watched the video again and did not see the presence of video light which of course would be misleading. I saw some shimmering light in one shot, but that is just sunlight shimmering through shallow water I think. If they used video light in both side-by-side shots with and without the filter, I suppose that might be more acceptable, but such a set-up should be disclosed I would think.

What does everyone else think about the presence or absence of video lights?

the grunts at 59 seconds looks like artificial light to me. Before that, the backscatter near the manta, made me suspect a light as well.

I believe that there were not lights in the earlier shots. There are some later shots labeled "with video lights".

Impressive results, but there's nothing a color filter can do that you can't do just as well in post processing. I wonder what a circular polarizer would do underwater, though....

Looks like it could be great for people who want to do as little editing as possible and don't mind the extra protrusion.

I'll watch it again for specific times but I saw a bit of backs after and more I saw shadows. It is always possible that I was not accounting for the depth of water and that is sun light but it did not look that way to me.

Re: Cool Filter System for GoPro Cameras

At 1:26, the shadow on the shark initially looked artificial but I guess, in insane viz, it could be natural. At 1:34, that has to be caused by a light. The angle wouldn't make sense for sunlight.
Take it for what it is, an amateur observation. I could certainly be wrong the shots labeled as having lights do all show dynamic reflections so that supports the video being properly labeled
