Narwhal Dive Paradox?
Turns out narwhals when spooked drop their heart rate from 60 bpm to around 20 bpm as they flee. I doubt the conclusions the scientists drew -that it is a bad thing - because it contradicts evolution. I'm labeling it the Narwhal Dive Paradox.
Wondering if this is possibly a prep for deep diving, saving oxygen? Possibly they can shut down functions such as digestion whilst fleeing/diving? It is known that some whales (beaked whale) can dive more than 9000 fsw (without scuba or trimix). Narwhal Dive Paradox I think there should be more data/better sensors before rushing to a conclusion.
