Dousing

This has always fascinated me. As a child, I remembered a demonstration from a water utility person that found the pipe leading from my parent's home out to the street utilizing these divining rods. He hit it on the button.

Re: Dousing

When my grandfather retired in the late 60's and bought property in the foothills to build his retirement home, the well driller hired a local who came out and found the best spot for the well with her forked stick. I thought they called it a devining rod back then, but it was an accepted practice and very effective.

Re: Dousing

Know at least a couple of guys who won't so much as start a trench until they've walked the area with copper wires in each hand . soon as they cross, that's a water main . Always found it fascinating.

Re: Dousing

A guy made a believer out of me..he had me make them out of a steel coat hanger..
I tried, to no avail, to mimic his results.
So..I had little to NO faith in the mark he made on the ground.
But..when we dug, he was right on!
Go figure!

Re: Dousing

Buddy of mine bought 26 acres near Gatlinburg Tennessee.Old timer came out to find a spot to drill for a well with some bent wireOld timer was on the moneyThats pretty cool considering the cost to drill in the mountains.I have heard of some of the utilities guys using wires to locate underground utilities also.Wouldnt bother me for water lines but I wouldnt run a ditchwitch or backhoe around underground power no matter what billybobs wire says
