format a new card?

Just got a new card. I tried it and it works fine out of the box. I don't think a formatting is required for the new card(?)
I had problems in the past when I had formatted a card after deleting files, but maybe it was a coincidence.
I do have the latest firmware upgrades in my Gopro 3 silver.

Is there a question in this post or are you just sharing information?

I'm asking if formatting a new card is required.

Re: format a new card?

I format my cards every time after I transfer the files. Between my 6 or 7 go pros, and various other cameras ive never had an issue post format... Gotta use good cards and not some el cheapo on ebay. Even if they were name brand, id still be somewhat skeptical. The memory card industry is highly unregulated and many people selling them are pawning off counterfeits Trying to save a few bucks in the beginning can inevitably hurt you in the long run. Trust me on this. Nothing worse then having 30+ hours of footage that cant be viewed because your cards transfer rate was lower then your cameras...

Re: format a new card?

If in doubt, you can format the card whilst its in the GoPro, that way you know when its done it will be working fine. Even if you format it from the PC and remove the folders etc. when you plug it in the GoPro it will put it all back on.
Like Tony said, most important thing is to buy a genuine high performance card.
