Re: Santa Barbara Conditions Report "Perma-Thread"
John(JHT), Shen, and I were checked at Dev last night, the wardens who checked us said that they do consider floppers a hooked device. They said that if they wanted to, they would write tickets, but would let it slide this time.

Re: Santa Barbara Conditions Report "Perma-Thread"
Its really confusing that there in no exact rule on bringing a GUN while bug diving (at least to my knowledge) but it really does just depend on who you run into who consider it a hooking device. I usually dive with my camera attached to my gun so I guess I could prove that I didn't use it to my advantage if it were a big problem. But they also might not care if I have film or not so I have no idea

Re: Santa Barbara Conditions Report "Perma-Thread"
That's so frustrating. I asked the old warden (who I think retired last year) about two years ago, and I asked the new guy both at the beach and a a club meeting. Both times he said it wasn't a problem. Who was it that checked you guys and told you this? Disappointing.

Re: Santa Barbara Conditions Report "Perma-Thread"
Went surfing at rincon yesterday. Head high sets with about twenty people spread over the point when I got in, miracle session. Water was deep blue color and vis was the best I've ever seen it there. I could see the bottom and rocks the whole time I was out out. Lots of bait fish swimming around.

I think they would have to prove that you were using it as a "hooked device", because the gun is not manufactured or sold as said "hooked device". I bet if you have a pile of bugs and they think you had to cheat to get that many, they might drag you into a courtroom, but it would be a weak case at best (you'd still waste your time dealing with it, though). Just don't shoot the bugs. |

Re: Santa Barbara Conditions Report "Perma-Thread"
Put a "1" on the lobster card this morning before work off Gaviota. Took my 70cm with me just in case but I couldn't find any decent fish to spear - just a bunch of small rock fish, short Cabs and short lobsters. I continue to think that the commercial guys have stripped most of the legal lobsters and finding anything decent from here on out will be difficult. On a side note - it must be mating season for the sea slugs - they were everywhere...
Vis was plenty good enough to view the bottom with my LED light - hard to judge exactly in the dark though. I'm sure it will be good today. Damn that water is getting cold! Just about froze my ass off taking my wetsuit off... Errin |

The club camp out was awesome, we dove dume twice, and did a night dive at leo, vis was 30 +, we took lots of bugs, a few calicos and cabs, and some scallops.
