Technical Spearfishing Technical Scuba diving is generally defined as going deeper than 130 feet. You must have the proper training for this extreme aspect of spearfishing.

Diving Deep

I have been diving for a while now and want to go deeper. I have Nitrox now. What training do I need to go to 200'? I see Headhunter and his group of animals doing these crazy deep dives. I would like to dive some of the deeper wrecks. Any feedback would be great.

Re: Diving Deep

It depends what "for a while now" means, if it is at least afew hundred dives over 100' I would reccomend you talk to Chad Carney, he is a spearfishing oriented tech instructor. Adv Nitrox and Deco, then after a while helitrox or trimix. Be careful.

Re: Diving Deep

I have just a handful of dives over 100'. Most of my dives are under 70'. I want to get down to some of these wrecks that are out there

Re: Diving Deep

You don't want to deep dive Nitrox. You can only dive longer on Nitrox not deeper.
Not over 130. You might want to try some Trimix.

I deep dive air, because my body allows it.

Re: Diving Deep

Nathan, any reputable instructor would require quite a few dives @ depth before teaching any kind of extended range.
I believe I had to have 200 to 300 dives past 100' before I could get in the pipeline for Tri-mix via Deep Air,Advanced Nitrox,Technical Nitrox then Mix classes.I also had to have 100 of those dives wearing the gear I'd be using,in my case doubles but at the least an H valve or pony set-up.
A lot depends on you choice of instructor and certifying agency.

Re: Diving Deep

This thread is useless. He's Nitrox and asked a redundant question, that anyone would have the answer to.

Re: Diving Deep

work on a longer breath hold?? lol trimix i would say is the best answer b/c nitrox wont let you, and air will only allow you a small amount of bottom time maybe tony will chime in

those headhunter guys use computers to do all their precise calculations before every dive

Nathan, visit the following thread for some answers:

http://www.spearboard.com/showthread.php?t=27438

I have been diving deep air ti 210 feet almost every weekend. I am working on a trimix certification to go deeper with less narcosis.

Really??? With a 28% mix at a 1.6 PO2 your MOD would be 155 fsw. Last I check 155 fsw > 130 fsw

I started to type a long response, but it is obviously a waste of my time!
