This year's El Nino is expected to be one of the strongest on record. Our experts explain why.

Typical. News outlet makes a clickbaity headline, says "experts" when they really mean that one guy they interviewed...

If anyone wants to better understand and follow the weather patterns and El Nino activity AND have it all geared toward what swell is going to hit our coast, just go here

The news these days is just so dumbed down and full of BS. If you're interested in this stuff, just watch stormsurf every Sunday.

Not that yahoo's wrong -- this year is shaping up to be right there with 83/97. Trending toward somewhere in between the two. But the guy said it was bigger than 97, and it's not yet by any objective measure. That's just conjecture. Also, this El Nino is different because the warm water is displaced further west, which could have an effect on storm tracks and where the bulk of the precipitation goes. I'm just saying the news is always going to forecast the apocalypse and talk to the one guy willing to say that's maybe (but definitely) going to happen.

The funny part is, if they really wanted to make an extreme headline, they could've gone a whole other direction. This El Nino could keep going (and even strengthening) well into next year...
