Float line for newb
ive spent some time pole spearing the local jetty and in pv with some friends. I've been looking at threads for a long time now and I recently acquired an old jbl 38 special from a family friend. I took it to the dive n surf yard sale where I spent My last paycheck to pick up new bands, shot line, fin sock, gloves and a bodyglove freedive wetsuit. I know soon I will be moving onto to bigger things and bigger fish. Just curious what the most cost efficient way to go about buying a floatline for a sixteen yo working on a restaurant hosts budget. I'm leaning towards a fifty ft foam-filled floatline but don't know if it makes a major difference to go with a pro style float line like the one mako sells.
Also leaning towards a lifeguard can hard float. Thoughts? Thanks Josh |

Re: Float line for newb
Having not used the float lines you have mentioned, I would say that generally higher quality is better for spearing gear.
That said, Nilsonov is spot on with the poly float line recommendation. Super cheap and works great (read the floatline coiling thread), sometimes you even get a free fid to put an eye splice in both ends. I have a RiFfe floatline, and it's ok, but for the money, it's not THAT much better than the poly (just stronger and more durable). When your ready for a better floatline, you will know... And then you'll go buy a reel |

I use it and I also added a 10' bungee to reduce the pull from passing waves 50" will let you dive plenty far. Make sure you put a flag on the float so folks can see you when the swell is over 2 feet
