Speargun holder for boats

Greetings,

First time using the Spearboard. Looking for options for a speargun holder for boats. I have a 26 foot Sailfish Center Console that we do a fair amount of spearfishing off of. We usually just keep spearguns in bags laying on the deck. Looking for different options for storing the guns (at least 4 guns) vertically in the back of the boat and do not want to drill holes into the boat for mounting. Any ideas would be most appreciated.

There are lots of choices. I used a rectangular shaped trash basket from Home Depot, about 10" x 16" x 36" or so. 1/4"diam bungies around the top hold the guns in place, and 1/2" diam. bungies hold it in place in the stern against the transom. It's removable when not diving, inexpensive, and holds something like a dozen guns. I can take some more pics if you think you might want to build one.
Ballanita also makes a much nicer one than that, so that's another option- sort of both ends of the spectrum!

Also i been on boats where people simply use a plastic drum or trash can strapped in back corner. Not prettiest but free and functional.

Sticking the guns in a drum or tub is OK unless some guns have sandpaper friction grips which will work over your gun which is not the best option if you are particular about your guns. A rack that keeps them separated is best if you have an expensive gun(s) and you want to preserve their looks (not always possible of course, but you can give it your best shot). Spear One (Kevin) has some racks which you can check out of his site.

Whatever you do, don't put an expensive gun in one. They will wear the finish off the gun in no time. They will also break a nice custom ergonomic handle. Bag on the deck on my boat for me.

What I have done before that works easy, is get some of those big rubber Gear Ties from the home depot or any store really. Looks like a big bread bag tie.

I then lay a gun upright against one of my ttop legs and use 1 or 2 of the ties to hold it securely to the ttop leg. Keeps them out of the way and secure.

It is the vibration and jiggling around with small repetitive motion rubbing on things that wears off surface finish, so something has to be interleaved between the gun and the rack holder. Watch out for old plastic (e.g. buckets) with sand embedded in it, you may not feel the sand unless you run the back of your hand or fingertips over it, yet on a short boat trip of an hour or so the sand particles will chew through the surface coat on your gun at selected spots.

Re: Speargun holder for boats

I use the gear ties that sway21 talks about. I tie spare guns under the ttop horizontally, or vertically behind the leaning post. But our main guns always end up on the floor near the bow on the side between the fishbox cooler and raised bow deck. Get a bunch of speargun tip protectors. You can buy tip protectors or make your own using old bands.

Thanks for all the responses. Some great options. I am particular about my spearguns wood finishes. Use a Koah Battle Axe for bottom fishing and a Riffe for Bluewater
