Re: Spearfishing Video Thread

Here's a vid of some yellowtail, white seabass, and halibut. All but one of the fish were speared on shore dives. Nothing huge but I had fun in the process.

Re: Spearfishing Video Thread

Jim, that was another epic vid. That brown you shot in the pipe was SO fat. Also love the halibut somersault into your hands. Such a good shot.

Alex, two solid executions. Nice PB, I knew I could expect great things from you....

Avenues, that is some awesome footage and even more impressive that you shot them all on shore dives. Super jelly of the diving down your way..... Will use this vid to get pumped for mu next Island or Seabass trip I go on.

What does pb mean? Also, how deep is that water? I thought Ling Cod were always really deep? That looks so shallow.

Great vid!

Re: Spearfishing Video Thread

Pb means personal best. They do tend to stay in deeper water, but it is possible to find them shallow. I've gotten one in about 10 feet before.

I will just leave this here....not exactly a "spearfishing" video but if you're like me you might be tempted to shoot your speargun at the screen so try to remain calm!

Re: Spearfishing Video Thread

That was an awesome video. Unfortunately, this is what the maker/uploader thinks "proper management" should be.
Quote:
I thought it appropriate to use the footage to show what our oceans COULD look like with the proper management (there is a no commercial fishing zone within a 250mile radius of the island).
EDIT: kinda cool though, cause it looks like you can go sport fishing there. Unless I'm looking up the wrong Ascension island.

Great vid!
Around SoCal ling are typically deep but they move shallower in the fall/winter. Bigger ones stay deeper. In January/Feb I limit all the time (it's only 2 per day) fishing in less than 40'. I've seen them in as little as 10' but that is rare and mostly at night. They like cold water, so if you are near an upwelling or it's just a time of year when the water is freezing you may run into one shallower, otherwise they are well below thermocline. In high summer they are pretty deep (I haven't seen any below 75' in months).

Jim, great stuff as usual. I love that bolina you got out of the pipe. Awesome fish, not usually found by most spearos up here because they're a deep fish. Lets go diving already bud!

Thanks dude! I know, I suck at making plans...hopefully before you leave!!

Snuck out on Sunday down by Carmel and found excellent conditions and two meaty sheepies, a small suicidal ling, and some nice olives.

Sincerely,

Jim
