"A wise and frugal government ... shall restrain men from injuring one another, shall leave them otherwise free to regulate their own pursuits of industry and improvement, and shall not take from the mouth of labor the bread it has earned. This is the sum of good government." Thomas Jefferson (1801)

Re: America

Weather warmed up to around 60 so I took the oldest grandkid trout fishing.Caught two and lost one.
Didnt get a chance to use the flyrod because he had some of his school mates and family show up at the spot.
Maybe tomorrow.

Re: America

I have launched my canoe there and ran the river to the canoe/kayak launch by the lake.Lots of areas with no people and lots of trout.
One waterfall is about 5ft high and we dont get much water in when we go over.Keeps a lot of people up river and the holes filled with trout.
There are areas all over these mountains you can just pull off the road and catch trout with kids or beginners but you may have company. If you are willing to hike some there are little creeks with brook trout and nothing around but wildlife.
Nothing seems better in life than to cook on the side of a stream what you just caught and hear nothing but the stream or the fire crackling.

hell yes Grew up floating the James river in VA and spent MANY a night on sandbars eating fresh cat and smallmouth. We had coal trains that used to run next to the river so we would find HUGE chunks of coal in the river. We saved them for the fire when we went to sleep....that black smoke and suet kept the bugs away all night and left us hot coals for the morning meal.....
BTW, my nickname was the "cryogenic engineer" because on day four or five of a float trip I was still pulling cold beer out of my cooler while the rest were drinking hot swill.

Re: America

Rivers here are pretty cold.Just leave the beer in a mesh lobster bag or drink the local shine.

Re: America

Damon mid summer the river could be low 80s. That is why the beer tasted so good

Man that's the fugliest Rainbow I never seen. No way a Long Island, Yankee Bow looks like dat. Forget about Montana, Idaho, Utah Rainbows - they are so pretty you'd want to saddle up with dem dere lassies.... A Southern Bow is an orphaned child...

It came off the Mepps spinner just as I pulled over the boulder.Got a little brutalized trying to keep it from bouncing back.
This spot usually gives me nice brown trout down stream but its still kind of cool for my comfort to wade fish.
When I lived on a trout stream I had huge Browns,Rainbows,Brooks and Goldens off my feeder. Some of the male Brooks were 5 pounds. Some of the Rainbows were salmon size.Goldens were all 18" and larger.
Oh well life kicks you in the balls and you move on.
