Out of Anna Maria.
Fin barge... 22 miles from bean point. Viz 40' shot a gag, I was quick on the trigger, but those dam Jews were faster at scooping him up... seen kings, 1 permit and plenty of snapper.
Went to another barge, 56' viz was 30+ but couldn't see the structure through the bait. Shot about a 40lb king but he pulled off. Sharks immediately swarmed us. After that we Moved in and started shooting ledges
50' 35-40 of viz Bottom was hazy
45 ' 30-35' of viz hazy on bottom
40' 25-30' of viz, hazy more so mid column
7 mile reef... hazy on top 12-15' of viz

Water was almost warm enough for a skin suit
Got 1 red grouper, and 2 hogs.
My buddies got 1 hog, 1 lion, and 1 yellowtail 16" at the 7 mile reef.

Nice fish, Russell - I'll take a few big ones over a ton of small ones any day.

Re: Current Vis - Tampa Bay Region (Homosassa to Sarasota)

Did 115 miles yesterday in the Pelican. Went out to my new honey hole, the spring hole we did so great on last Monday. Wellllllllllllllll, either someone else knows about it or the fish wised up. I think there were possibly just as many fish there, but they were a lot more skittish. The gags only gave me a few chances, and the ARS kept swimming away from me every time I got almost close enough for a shot. Only ended up with 1 gag and 1 ARS. My brother, Tyson, and Tim all dove the spot and got some lions, hogs, mangos (some BIG ones). Should have just stayed there but decided to check a few other spots - many spots had boats on them, and anything in less than 70 feet had a lot of suspended green vegetation/algae floating around. Not a lot of fish to shoot.

Ah well, every day can't be epic. Still had a nice time and conditions were pretty good.

Great to have Tyson out on the boat with us - he's just as funny in person as he is on the internet.

Re: Current Vis - Tampa Bay Region (Homosassa to Sarasota)

Heard the Pickled pelican on the radio out there Grey. We started out in 65 foot of water. Water temperature was 81°. Hit a ledge where I saw some American red snapper's last week. They were gone. Had to make a decision to go deeper to get the ARS from what I heard during the week. The decision paid off. Went to 100 foot. Bluewater. 50 foot of visibility. 78°. Was met by 100 red snapper. Kids stayed on the surface and rod and reeled. Threw back 18 inch American red after 18 inch American red. We got our ten. I also shot a 27.5" gag and a couple of mangos. Super fun day.

Yes, I agree that I am "polite/strained chuckle" level also in person.

Thanks for letting me touch the Pickled Pelican!

You should have said, "Hello!" Great to hear you found your limit! I didn't have any spots in that deep, nor would I have dove it - though if the ARS were hanging 20-30 feet off the bottom that would have been doable with a line kit on.

All is good now. It hit my left arm/shoulder. I performed a slow ascent and safety stop but I guess it wasn’t enough. Lesson learned, if the computer quits then abort the dive. I’ve ordered a brand new computer already
