dont dive the lagoons, the tigers are crazy, white sharks arent nearly as bad as tiger sharks.

F*** the schools, just make sure it is an accreditted college and that your credits will transfer when you come back if you come back.I spent all last summer their just travelling around. I would move there in a heart beat, if i could just figure out how to drug the ole lady long enough to get her on the plane (that reminds me it was a long ass flight, bring some sleeping pills)!!
Whitsunday islands has one of the prettiest beaches in the world along with some of the best diving i encountered while there (its of the coast of surfers paradise, dont let the name fool you), i spent a few days aboard the soloway lass which is an old tall ship sail boat, a dive operation would meet us out there and take us to some remote spots(some of my most favorite dives ever). never did any spearfishing but know it is popular down there. the whole country is very active in water sports. the great barrier reef out of cairns was nothing to right home about, to many cones over the years have damaged the reef, but did have great time on the live aboard. I would recomend adelaid close to the water but large enough to still be a great city. although i did spend an incredible week on manly beach in sydney but the rent was something like a 1200 a month to be on the beach, so dont know if its economically feasible. I am going to stop my self i could go on and on about the awesome places and times i had while there. if you find out where you are going i would be happy to dig my journal out and fill you in on that specific area, i hit pretty much the whole eastern side of the country, perth is the only city on the west worth mentioning and i know they have a battleship you can dive but just wasnt worth the time and money to go over there. just pm me and i will be happy to relive those memories. Definatly talk to platty to get some contacts and dont walk but run, you wont be sorry!!!

I was in the land of OZ for about 5.5 weeks when i had to cut my trip short due to a tradgedy with one of my close friends. You never know what you will find out from an email after spending a week at sea. it was a very sad ending to an otherwise extrodinary trip.
