There must be some serious grant money involved for those putting together something like this.....

This tournament is funded by stakeholder donations. Scuba shops, dive and fishing charter operations, seafood restaurants, real estate companies, dive gear manufacturers, etc., have donated their time and money to make this happen. (you can see a list of current sponsors here: http://www.gulfcoastlionfish.com/sponsors.html ) Unfortunately, our section of the Gulf is like the Goldilocks Zone for those little bastards. If we don't take action soon, the snapper fishery is sure to take a significant hit. You can't tell me this isn't a negative impact: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iHbdEXJD748 |

Re: 2014 Gulf Coast Lionfish Roundup Starts 5/1/14
The first GCLC Roundup was a big success! In just a few days, 23 shooters put 1,914 lionfish out of business, and on a plate. There were 200 fish entered anonymously (so they would not be counted for prizes) and 1,714 "officially" entered. Here are the results (see attached) I've been told that this was either the 1st or 2nd largest number of lionfish ever entered in a U.S. tournament!
