Another Jewfish Thread!

Hello everyone! I've been lurking for a while, but now that I have finally replaced my boat and got underwater again, I figured I better sign up officially. I really appreciate the valuable info and the entertainment you guys have provided me while I was stuck on land.
After my dives last friday, I have a couple of questions of my own. First, how deep do you regulary find jewfish. I dove a spring and a wreck West of Sarasota in about 200ft and to my surprise I found Jewfish at both spots. I have fished these spots numerous times and have never landed or probably even hooked a Jewfish. We fish a tournament every now and then, and when fishing these spots we use tackle heavy enough that we would have probably landed one before if they were present...or at least been able to tell it wasn't a large gag/black or cubera. I thought Jewfish were common to about 160 or 180 in this area, but became very scarce after that. After those dives though, I was wonder if their range has begun to expand since their population is recovering? Anyway, your thoughts would be appreciated.

Also, I'm using a Ocean Rhino with one spare shaft holder and I love it. However, I miss have a flashlight rigged on to my gun. Has anyone setup an Ocean Rhino with a spare shaft on one side, and a flashlight on the other? I think it will work on the side of the gun without compromising the ability to switch over to a lineshaft on the fly (just not comfortable shooting big AJ's without a line yet!).

Re: Another Jewfish Thread!

I have seen them in water as shallow as 10ft around the Skyway bridge and I have seen them on my deepest dive as well. BTW my deepest dive is MUCH shallower than Kmoose...

I know for a fact there is a 250+lb one on some rubble near the Clearwater Artifical that is like 4.7 miles right out of the pass. That is 27ft
