lead weight coating?

Is there any kind of coating I can buy easily to spray on lead weights to decrease skin contact lead exposure?

I have young toddlers at home, hence the question.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Re: lead weight coating?

get some plasti dip, i have dipped my truck hood and roof and it works great very resilient, the more coats the better plus it wont make any ding sounds to scare off the fish if u hit them by accident.

Re: lead weight coating?

I'm 53. Been fishing and ****ing around with uncoated lead since I can remember. Been handling lead weight belts for a long time too. If it was so dangerous, I and MANY other people would have been sick long time ago. There are statistics for you chances of getting stuck by lightening, bit by a shark, eaten by a whale.....but I doubt there is one for dying of lead poisoning due to handling uncoated lead. Grow a pair dude

Re: lead weight coating?

Well you keep eating your big macs and drinking diet soda. Ill stick to protecting my body from as many toxins as I can. I actually want to enjoy retirement , not die as soon as I do. It may be a very little bit of toxin ,but thats like saying just alittle bit of water in a gas tank is OK.

I just knew I was gonna get ripped apart for asking this question. Yes, yes, yes... I know it's statistically very low the chances that I'll get lead poisoning. However, I am not that concerned myself. Like I mentioned, I have an infant and a toddler at home, and I don't want to take any chances with them. It would be irresponsible of me as a parent. So thank you all for your helpful advices and opinions. Please keep commenting if there's any other easy ways to coat these suckers.

Williamsc, thx for your help.

Re: lead weight coating?

Get coated ones that Are not from neptonics. Just bought 5 2lb weights from Austin's dive center today for 10 bucks a piece.

Re: lead weight coating?

I wouldnt say the 'statistics are low' I would say that you probably have a better chance of dying from getting hit in the head from a falling coconut, while riding a camel, heading to the lottery office to cash in your 10,000,000 quick pick...

We used to use a special lead paint when we made jig heads, ya know, so the fish wont get poisoned or anything on the ride up...so i understand the concern.

Re: lead weight coating?

So if you eat fish that have consumed a lead jig head, I guess that means you will get lead poisoning. How do you wash your innards?
