Cat vs Mono - Revive the debate
Video of a Freeman 33: Beaufort tournament 2013 - YouTube
Video of an Intrepid 37: Twin Seven Marine 557s on Intrepid 370 (Part 1) - YouTube This is about as graphic as it gets as far as showing how much better a cat rides. |

Re: Cat vs Mono - Revive the debate
First off the freeman 33 is the "best" cat on the water, limited production custom built one offs is hardly a fair comparison. Anyone who has ever spent the day on a cat knows they can be the shit while cruising, you also know however, that they can suck on the drift or troll.
Monos are; faster, rock less on the drift, cheaper, bigger cabins, built more, easier to trailer, tried and true. If you only have 50k total to spend, your going to get more boat with a mono.

Re: Cat vs Mono - Revive the debate
It's funny how Cat owners that spend $100k+ on a 30 foot boat will grasp at anything to justify spending so much for so little in return if anything.

Re: Cat vs Mono - Revive the debate
This is always fun. You never really change anyone's mind.
BurgJohn - Intrepid is the "best" mono out there. Semi-custom, top flight fit & finish, stepped hull. Totally a fair comparison. That is why I used these 2 videos. Greekdiver - Kmoose - What good 30ft mono sells for less than 100k? |

Re: Cat vs Mono - Revive the debate
Having owned and trailered both mono hulls and now a cat. And having recently towed the cat from Hammond La. to Marathon Florida, I think I can speak with some experience. A mono hull is no easier to trailer than a cat.
Fuel efficiency???? How many people cruise 22/23 kts. LOADED and getting 2 MPG! |

Re: Cat vs Mono - Revive the debate
And intrepid makes great boats but not the best, off the top of my head the invincible 33 is a pretty bad ass rig. Nor tech 34. Yellowfin 32. Fountain 34. Contender 31. Cape horn 31.
Freeman is closer to the 36-38 class so you have the fountain 38. Cape horn and contender 36. Nor tech 39. Yellowfin 36,39,42.... These are the boats mang. They can get you there and won't have people puking on the troll.

Re: Cat vs Mono - Revive the debate
Beam on the Intrepid 10.5. TOTALLY a fair comparison. And for fit/finish Intrepid is better than practically any production boat.

Re: Cat vs Mono - Revive the debate
Yea and its a 37. Beam on the 33 invincible is 9'7.
A 33 mono is skinnier than a 33 cat.

Re: Cat vs Mono - Revive the debate
What size is this boat? 20 ft single engine boats do pretty good on gas.
