Hawke's Bay, NZ reports
Hot, sunny, clear. Fridge and freezer are overflowing with fish, paua (abalone) and crayfish (lobster). Summer is beyond rad.

Lucky! Its like 20 degrees F here. I should move to New Zealand. Hows the economy there? Whats the diving like...is there some descent shore diving/spearing? Always wanted to check out NZ.

Economy is good, diving is awesome, shoreys are better than most places I've been to.

Re: Hawke's Bay, NZ reports
Thats awesome, sounds like a cool place to live. Are north and south islands good for shore dives? How's diving in your winter season?

Re: Hawke's Bay, NZ reports
North Island has way more spearfishing opportunities, the farther north, the better. South Island makes up for lack of species with massive crays, paua, and a few of the better tasting fish. But it's frickin cold down there.

Re: Hawke's Bay, NZ reports
I wish I had some new ones, but most of my dives lately have been for dinner, so haven't taken many pictures. The last great effort was the Great Barrier trip, on this forum.

vacation homes in the area is listed from 200-400 per week? Is that pricey for the area? Looking for a long term vacation stay in the future!

Yep, that's pretty standard. Not very cheap.

Re: Hawke's Bay, NZ reports
Is there much of a wine region in the north? I'm looking at moving there to do mental health nursing and my lady is in the wine industry. I'd rather live north where the diving and weather is better.

Re: Hawke's Bay, NZ reports
Yeah, there's plenty of "wine" up north, but just not as much as Marlborough and Hawke's Bay. It shouldn't be too hard to find out if the industry is big enough to break into up north.
