Re: DIY FLOATLINE Step-by-Step!!!
Is there any special knot recommended for tying Spectra or Dyneema line? I've heard that knots in Spectra can weaken it considerably, specially the wrong knot? I've made floatlines like the above using mono, but want to do the same with Spectra.

Re: DIY FLOATLINE Step-by-Step!!!
I finished my float line today. It came out pretty good. Its going to be perfect for what I'm using it for. I would post pics but its just a 50' plain clear tube with black mono, looks very similar to all the other ones.
Couldn't have done it anywhere near as well without this thread. Thanks! |

Re: DIY FLOATLINE Step-by-Step!!!
Hey,
What a great thread. I think I might have to make me one too. BTW, What are the general total costs to make a 100ft. float line? Peace, Errol |

I wouldn't think it would cost you much more than $50, just depends on what you already have. Plus it gives you something to do and the pride in knowing you made it yourself. |

Re: DIY FLOATLINE Step-by-Step!!!
The Most Important addition to the thread is the direction to sink that end piece within the tubing, and to be sure that line within the tubing is actually slightly shorter than the outside tubing- this way the line cannot be pulled out.
Please note that a bungie floatline would be the opposite to permit some stretching- these floatlines can stretch slightly IF the endpieces fit very tightly inside AND they are properly secured with a couple of constrictor knots. I would HIGHLY recommend using the colored tubing from US plastics- it is much more flexible and forgiving than the rigid tubing from Home Depot or Lowes. ALSO if you cannot secure some real endplugs, then go with some other hardware that would be able to sink within the tubing, and not just sit at the ends. Be sure to read the whole thread with the improvements. Thanks for the thanks!!!! |

Re: DIY FLOATLINE Step-by-Step!!!
Has anybody tried using a pvc air hose? I picked up 50' from HD for $10. It seems really heavy duty & flexible.

If the outside diameter is closer to 3/8" then give it a shot; any bigger and its starting to become less useful. Also, finding hardware with larger diameters can be more challenging and expensive. |

I have a 30ft, 40ft, 50ft and a 75ft floatline- each are color coded (red, yellow or blue); some are stronger than others too. I use the smaller lines for smaller fish and shallow diving. You should definitely have more than one floatline for different reasons. Honestly, if your diving close to shore in New Jersey, any well made floatline using 300lb mono is almost overkill. |
