Re: Meandros b32

Very nice shooting gun! The shaft drop seems a little low for 5 meters but maybe with a shorter overhang that will improve. Looks like there is some left shift. I certainly think this gun would benefit greatly from a customized handle to eliminate left shift.

Just to see if it shoots flat at 4m and that 5m is real drop. Thing is, I was wondering if there isn't a risk that a particular gun's sight line can "cheat" the spearo and make it aim low?

Re: Meandros b32

This video is a friend of mine, Tibor. I told him to change to 14mm small id bands at 350% to help with that recoil, but I think spearq8 is right about the grip and left shift.

I have my 130 b32 setup with 14.3mm small id primeline bands at 360% and a 7.5mm 170cm Sigalsub spear with cone. It's shooting really well.

I'll measure the total gun length muzzle to butt and post it tonight. I feel it should really be called a 140, with 142cm band stretch.

Re: Meandros b32

142cm band stretch is a loooong band stretch for a pipe gun. The problem is that as the gun gets longer and you are still using thin shafts .... shaft whip becomes a problem ... especially with a gun that has little mass. I think 142cm is too long and already the Pathos 130 has 137cm of band stretch and that is pretty long. But trust me ... even these long guns can be setup with extreme power and accuracy. The design looks like it has the handle very high up and it would take maybe a few minutes of work with marine epoxy putty to fix the handle. That would put the handle a bit higher up and push recoil in the palm with no offset. Results will be dramatically better and I would be surprised if that gun wouldn't shoot 3 shots inside an inch dead center at 5 meters. With the Pathos 130 I was able to even shoot accurately a 165cm @ 7mm shaft after handle mod with no shaft whip. Previously I wouldn't even touch a 7mm shaft after 150cm as whipping becomes a problem. If you could give me the distance from the trigger to the back palm area of the handle (at the neck) I could probably help you more.

One thing to note ... as you add power ... you also add a lot more stress on the trigger sears. My experience is that all triggers are made of 316 or 304 ... and they will eventually scratch as you start pushing those big power loads. My Pathos 130 test with the big loads would destroy the default trigger in less than 5 shots ... I do think that Meandros knows his triggers much better than Pathos. My Pathos testing was done with a customized trigger that was thicker and cut out of 304 instead 316. Even that showed some scratching after some time with extremely high loads. Eventually I moved to Kolsterizing to harden the sears ... that worked like a dream ... no matter what load or how many shots I took ... I couldn't even see a light scratch under high magnification. Plus the trigger was silky smooth with super crisp pull. If you want to shoot a speargun accurately ... crisp and predictable trigger is an absolute must. If I was a gun manufacturer, that data is something I would jump on as in quantity ... Kolsterizing is not that expensive and would add very minimal additional cost.

Re: Meandros b32

The 130 B32 does seem to shoot pretty accurately for me, but it did come with a 7mm Devoto Sub spear 170cm and twin 16mm rubbers at 380%. The stock setup wasn't accurate for me, so as mentioned above, I changed the spear and rubbers.

I did try an 8mm, but couldn't control the recoil and left shift. This was with the stock handle.

The total gun length muzzle to butt is 157cm. It has 142cm and 139cm band stretch on the 7.5mm Sigalsub spear. It is 70mm from the trigger to the back neck of the handle. A little too big for my short Trump fingers and right in that area is the pin holding the mech in place. I know most of the load is in front of the pin, but I don't think it would be a good place to take too much off.

Re: Meandros b32

Yeah ... for me 70mm is just a little bit too long and I would try to get it to around 65mm. Put your spearfishing glove on and try and see if you can put your thumb high up and then rotate your hand around to get recoil line centered with your arm ... now check and see if you can reach the trigger. If you can you are only a couple of minutes away from dramatically changing the performance of your gun by simply adding marine epoxy putty like I did with in my handle mod video. I know I managed to do a complete mod with the Pathos 1 handle (around 66cm palm to trigger distance) without dremeling anything and it worked perfect. Try using dyneema gloves (weather permitting) if you can't reach the trigger ... this might put you where you just barely reach the trigger. Remember your finger doesn't have to go around the trigger, just enough to drop the sear.

Another thing is that if you can remove the grip off ... you can see exactly how far you can remove without reducing the structural integrity of the handle. Usually those grips are connected via pin a handle frame cog. You might need to put it in hot water if adhesive is used ... but it should come off easily.

Re: Meandros b32

Spear America will actually be the exclusive dealer for the Meandrios B32 guns. We are waiting for a shipment to come in. I tested these guns about a year ago and Meandros is truly the master when it comes to trigger design. Hanlde is the Picasso handle but they are working on their own handle as well as their own muzzle. The pipe is their own design and manufacturing.

Re: Meandros b32

Yeah, it just wanted to bite him!

I spoke to him after the coral sea trip and he said the thing that saved him was the spear going through its top jaw and out the back of its head. He said this stopped the shark going further up the gun and biting his arm.
If you watch closely you can see the spear tip out the back of its head and the gun doesn't get fired, but the shark bites the rubbers.

I asked him what gun he was buying to replace his B32. He told me he already had the same gun on order.
