Baja at its Best

Our best trip ever!!!! was last year to Mulege Baja Mx.
We stayed in the Bay of Conception at a rental home that worked out to be in a perfect location with tons of activities in the region: www.vrbo.com/339293
We were there for most of April and found it to be very easy to fly into Loreto and drive 1 hr north or we drove down from San Diego 12 hr. Private beach, hot spring, safe kayaking in the 150 sq mi bay, 7 islands near by to explore, hiking, surfing, whale touching, whale shark riding, clams scallops, lobster, and even shopping for the girls.
3 of the greatest experiences I have ever had were all on this trip:
-We got to touch, hug, kiss, baby grey whales in San Ignasio bay. What a world class experience that everyone in the family can experience.
-We got to surf Scorpion Bay, second longest wave in the world. Uncrowded slow long waves that go forever and a great beginners spot.
-And last we found that spearfishing in April, as the water warms up, in off the wall. Not only do the whale sharks come in to feed, but so do the Yellow tail, Aj and Cabrilla. We dove everything between Mulege and Loreto and found lots of world class diving. This is the most -friendliest Yt I have ever seen. So the highlight was my boy at 12 yo shooting his first 25# yt and my best buddy shooting his first 3 as well. we got 9 in 2 hr and stopped just to watch them continue to come in. Where was my go-pro??
Summers are very hot there but have the best fishing.
Go Baja!! Bring the Family they will love it and you will get to dive your brains out 24-7...

I have done a similar trip, surfing Scorpions Bay and diving, well lets just say North of Loreto. The diving can be amazing!

Looks great!
Where do you fly into, and where would you go to eat or buy food?

Re: Baja at its Best

I'm looking into this for an upcoming trip. It looks like you fly into Loreto and drive an hour north to Concepcion Bay. There are direct flights from LAX on Alaska Air. Apparently, there are places to eat nearby, but Mulege is 15-20 minutes away, and there are plenty of places to eat there.

Hopefully the OP can confirm, and also share some info on spearing - i.e. charter or pangueros, etc.

Re: Baja at its Best

Correct fly into Loreto, drive 1 hr north to the Bay and use this location as your hub. There are beach restaurants and bars all over and groceries stores in Loreto and Mulege. Loreto has lg hotels and much of the region is now National Park so look up Brett at Land and sea tours for spearo stuff.
In the bay you can camp on many beaches cheap or there are rental homes like this one: www.vrbo.com/339293 that can accommodate groups and help you organize boats stuff, activities, whale tours.....Also great- very comfortable for the hole family.

Re: Baja at its Best

Here are a few more shots of some fun fish, many of the snapper are a short kayak away and the YT are off the points, islands and pinnacles.
Friends had a 20 YT day last week.
The spearing is good but I really enjoy also looking for clams scallops and bugs.

Re: Baja at its Best

Back to Baja this last April, went to:
www.vrbo.com/339293
Great place, Great location, Great fishing:
The place is 5000 sq ft, so you can rent the Villa for a lg group or the Casita for 2, GREAT views and a great kitchen for cooking up all the seafood in the area.
It is central to lots of activities: surfing, sports fishing, spearfishing, whale touching, kayaking......
Fish: Fox and friends got 15+ Yt and lots of other fun fish the week before us. And while we were there we got 28 yt to 33 lbs and lots of snapper, triger, and cabrilla.
