Calling all club presidents! Neptune's 2015 Blue Water Meet! 6/13, Catalina
Calling all club presidents!!! The Long Beach Neptune's are proud to present the 52nd Annual Blue Water Meet! The event is strictly invitational, open to Neptunes, invited clubs, and sponsored guests! The BWM is set for Saturday, June 13th, at Catalina Island. Weigh-in is at 3pm sharp at the Isthmus.
The event begins at dawn, and is limited to within 4 miles of Catalina Island. This is a one-fish tournament: Go Big or Go Home!!! This is strictly breath hold spearfishing, no scuba, and no assistance from others when shooting, securing, dispatching, etc., of your fish! We also have a great raffle after the weigh in, so bring your dough!!! This is a fun time, a great gathering of the clubs, and includes some of the best spearfishermen/women in the country. Please see the Code of Conduct clause below! This is a great time to let loose, but we want to represent the spearing community in good light! Applications/rules are on our website, http://www.longbeachneptunes.com/docs--info.html. Feel free to contact me directly with questions! Dive safe, and I look forward to seeing everyone there! Byron Quinonez President, Long Beach Neptunes Long Beach Neptunes Blue Water Meet: Code of Conduct Clause The Long Beach Neptune's Blue Water Meet is the premier spearfishing tournament in the country, and provides an opportunity for all invited participants and club members to represent our sport to the public. Therefore, all divers are required to represent our sport with the highest level of conduct, goodwill and sportsmanship. The Long Beach Neptune's Board retains the right to disqualify any participant due to behavior deemed unprofessional or unbecoming to our sport, the event, or any participating club. So to sum it up, if you are not a club member or if you cant be sposored by a Neptunes member you are not good enough.

Stoked to see you out there, Ron! Should be another great turnout, and we have some epic raffle prizes this year! Hopefully those San Diego Freediver's won't corner that market again!

Yup. That's why it's smart to be nice to people, and make friends in this community.

No, I have not heard of the "flatfish classic" but everyone knows about the Blue Water Meet. Leo, come join the party, get a Neptune to sponsor you, and compete against some great guys and gals.
Most "legit" spearfishers don't care about the monetary aspect of competition. Bragging rights are valuable enough. If you can't get sponsored for the BWM, the Fall Classic is open to all. It's a lot of fun, and multiple categories to enter.

Re: Calling all club presidents! Neptune's 2015 Blue Water Meet! 6/13, Catalina
BWM is the longest running Blue Water Spearfishing Meet in the history of the U.S.A.
The Long Beach Neptunes, who sponsor the event is the oldest spearfishing club in America. Some of the best spearo's in the history of our country have competed in this competition and have their names on the perpetual trophy only if they have taken 1st place. There are only 52 men who have the (honor) of having their names on this trophy, it is to say the least, and elite group. This trophy is akin to winning the Stanley cup in hockey. It is about the trophy and having your name immortalized in history with the greats. Money comes and money goes, your money can be taken away from you, but once your name is on the Big Jim Christiansen Trophy for the Long Beach Neptunes Blue Water meet, the most coveted Spearo trophy on the west coast, no one can ever take that away from you. Even long after many of the greats are gone. Guy's I knew, I can still see their names proudly engraved on Jim's trophy. And that my friend, along with hanging with like minded buddies, is what it is all about.

Re: Calling all club presidents! Neptune's 2015 Blue Water Meet! 6/13, Catalina
You sir, are correct!
I remember that one, she won it w/ a great big halibut! I think we all like to place or win a comp. But the BWM is a very special meet, as Danny mentioned. I have been competing since 1992 placed fourth twice, and finally won it in 2007. It is definably the highpoint in my personal diving career, and that trophy is held in very high regard not only w/ me but everyone who is lucky enough win one. Scotty

You are correct sir!
Yes Julie shot that winning halibut on the east end free swimming just a few yards away from me. And I can tell you, she deserves the title that year, anytime you can shoot a 30 plus halibut you deserve accolades. So you see, it can be done with no balls at all.
