The WSB are Larger this Year....

...Like the Bluefin, each year; the wsb are getting larger. With lots of bait showing locally, the tankers are getting fatter by the day. My son, Billy, went out on the "Options" charterboat with captain Wes Flesch and friend Steven Koehler on a crew fun run this week. They worked the coast at dusk and landed 2 big seabass.
...The largest weighed in at 66 pounds and the "smaller" one was 58 pounds. Billy's pic of their catch made the front page of this week's Western Outdoor News.
... Last week, a 72 pounder was weighed in at Newport Beach. With a grunion run set for May 29 thru June 1st on a full moon, the next week will provide a chance to do a combo run on both, halibut and wsb... Next, if the wind and swell finally goes down, the Summer season will be off and running....

Re: The WSB are Larger this Year....

A combination of good bait the last 3 years (some squid, sardines and anchovie masses), along with no gill nets to catch all of them as they swim up the coast. This could be the year the 100 pound record is set.....several years back, I ran into a 5 fish school of wsb at Catalina on an evening dive, that were definitely over 100 lbs each.....
