Ive been seeing plenty of these up on craigslist at great prices, anyone have any experience with em?

Also thank you to everyone else for the input, I am seeing some good deals on four strokes out there right now, so I really just need to find a hull and a trailer that will work for me!

Re: Little Boat

This:

Its a foam boat collar for aluminum boats.

Pros: safer in rough conditions
Less money and more floor space compared to a RIB.
More durable than air filled tubes.

Cons: not as safe as a RIB ( having less floatation than a RIB. Hard to install and not widely available, locally.

Here is mine ( attached) which I made from raw eva foam. Its a little 12 footer with a 10hp 4 stroke. Super light for beach launching with 2-3 people and gear, without wheels.

It was kind of a bitch to do though and not cheap, but it was well worth it knowing that you can fill the boat with water and still get out of a dangerous situation.

Re: Little Boat

What you described is a RIB. Light, beach launchable, carries lots of weight, safe, etc.

I've had the living sh!t beaten out of me in a RHIB (retired coastie boat) 22fter crossing san pedro from catalina so there went my aspirations for having a rib. Lots of people love them. Maybe I left too late in the afternoon and didn't pay enough attention to the wind reports.

If this was Australia or New Zealand and we had stabi 16 fters runnin around everywhere I'd say you could possibly afford a small well used one, but this merica, and we're just catchin on to them aussies and kiwis. Only seen a couple round these parts of town.

Re: Little Boat

RIB. This 15'6" 60 hp Zodiac followed me home this week. New tubes are pricey. Good luck with your search.

Stabis are baddas!!!! I'm really interested in the centre cabin. There's a dealer in Oregon and one in Washington. In boats.com there's a decent number of 3rd generation used stabis.

I'm a fan. Stabis are all around designed very well. Inside cabin, hatches, storage, hull design, just kinda everything. Remind me of parkers in the way they give a complete turn key boat. Gotta love that turn key..

There's a very nice stabi with a big outboard that runs out of Santa Barbara harbor. Fast as lightening. I'm sure the locals on here could name it or guy who operates it.

Re: Little Boat

I have a Stabicraft 1410 Explorer. Just check out the video from Stabicraft. I use a 2 stroke 25 hp Yamaha. This is perfect for 2 spearos. If you plan on filling it with more than 800 lbs, go with a bigger motor. To me there is no better boat built. It flies with that motor and its an unsinkable all aluminum RIB, built for rough water. The quality of the TIG welding and manufacturing process in New Zealand is incredible. There are 3 dealers on the west coast of the US. One is in OR, one in WA and the other is AK.

Re: Little Boat

Yeah, I'm gonna keep saving for the 24' centre cabin. I saw one 09 going for 36k. I'm in love of how well planned they are.

Re: Little Boat

I bought a 21' RIB a few years back and I am still amazed at the places we can squeeze this thing into. It on a single axel trailer so its like towing nothing.... Beach launch in Baja, Bodega or Albion, no problem at all. VERY safe and fun boat, fast AF (42mph) and sips gas! My kids even drive it by themselves while we drink at Cat!

Re: Little Boat

Engine weight is less of a concern on the kind of boat you are talking about, but for small engines, the new Suzukis are really nice. They make a 10, 15, and 25hp which are fuel injected and dont require a battery to run. Pressurized gas system means no carb and no ethanol issues The 15hp I have weighs 97lbs, just a bit more than a 2 stroke but when I account for weight of gas and better fuel economy it is the same.
